Anneliese Meichel, age 90 of Oxnard, passed away peacefully at home with family on Sunday, February 3, 2019. She was born to her mother, Minna Gertrud Velske on July 5, 1928 and was raised by her mother and stepfather, Johannes Herbert Heise.

A proud German American, family and friends were Anneliese's love and joy. She was a strong survivor of many difficult times during the war in Germany. She lost her entire family in her early teen years, including four sisters who she continued to search for and hoped she would find throughout her life. Anneliese was an optimistic woman, always willing to provide a helping hand, and on no occasion shared her despairs. Rather she looked for the positive in every situation. She married the love of her life, John and had two beautiful children. In 1956, along with her family she traveled across the sea by Naval ship through Ellis Island to start a new life and live the American dream.

In a new world, speaking no English, she raised her two young children, and supported her husband's new career. She worked hard, learned English, and created a wonderful life for her family. Anneliese and her husband were founding members of the Ventura Rheinland Club, proud members of Las Posas Country Club, sponsored members of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, and a part of agricultural history in Oxnard. Anneliese was a strong, beautiful, elegant, kind, humble woman who made her American dream come true through hard work and perseverance.

Anneliese is survived by her daughter, Margot Cupp and (husband) Garth Cupp; grandchildren, Nicole Herring (Kelly), Monieca Cupp, and Garth Cupp (Stephanie); great grandchildren, Nicholas, Jaivon, Karson, Jacorey, MacKenzie, Kameron, and Elizabeth; and four nieces and one nephew in Germany. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Meichel and son, Hans Deter Meichel.
