Adrian "AD" Synegal III Obituary

Adrian Leo “AD” Synegal III, 81 of Oxnard, CA peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by family and loved ones during the early morning of Tuesday, April 16, 2024.  Throughout his life family and friends continually acknowledged and honored that everyone was blessed and fortunate to have had such a compassionate, exceptional, fierce, patriarch, supporter, and mentor.

Adrian “AD” was a father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, community volunteer, and friend who was born in New Orleans, LA on Dec. 5, 1942. His father, who was serving in the US Navy, experienced an untimely death during the summer of 1952, after which the family relocated to Tuskegee, AL. Adrian attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Elementary School before graduating from Tuskegee Institute High School. In 1963 Adrian enlisted in the US Navy and served as a Seabee until 1967 completing three tours in Vietnam  before settling down in Port Hueneme/Oxnard, CA.  In the city Adrian called home he served his community as a coach, mentor, community volunteer, and honorary policeman. He enjoyed a lengthy career with GTE/Verizon and subsequently retired in 2009 after a 40-year career.

Adrian had many well-known hobbies he was passionate about, cycling being one of them, riding along the coast and logging miles around town was something he did regularly. Another passion was his VW van and its ability to take him places at a whims notice.  It was built for him to relax and enjoy day camping and beach visits at a moment's notice because nature, peace, and quiet were beloved by Adrian. Even more so, Adrian was an avid reader across many disciplines and known for his great book recommendations and having knowledge of just about everything. Most importantly, he was quick to assist, offer practical advice which we all grew to love and value.  Adrian had a special place in the hearts of his sisters, being the only boy out of six sisters.

He leaves to mourn him, three beloved sons: Gerald Synegal (Adriana) of Oxnard with grandchildren Andre and Tait, Adrian Leo Synegal IV, Avery Marcus Synegal of Chicago IL, and one daughter, Erica Synegal (Octavio) with grandchildren Angel, Gabby, and Diego of Oxnard, six adoring sisters, Shirley S. Andrews (Robert) of Las Vegas, NV, Iona Synegal Price-Feinstein of Bainbridge Island, WA, Paulette Synegal Law (Joseph) of Anchorage, AK, Kathleen S Colson (Jess) of Tuskegee, AL, Gwendolyn S. Marcus of Anchorage, AK and Beverly Dotsy Spenser of Mountain House, CA. He is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and many lifetime friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Tait Lavery, and parents, Adrian Leo Synegal Jr. and Ivory Marie Parker Synegal.
