Oscar Loya Obituary

Oscar Loya Sr., 54, of Oxnard, CA passed away on August 6th at his home surrounded by his loving family after a 3-year battle with cancer.
Oscar was born on January 8th, 1960 in Port Hueneme to Refugio and Alicia Loya. Growing up in El Rio, he attended Rio Plaza and Rio del Valle. He graduated from Rio Mesa High School in 1978.
He enjoyed working 36 years as a longshoreman for the International Longshore and Warehouse Union. He worked hard to give his family the best life possible, and never hesitated to lend a helping hand to a friend in need. His work ethic was ingrained in him to the core. His keen intelligence and superb sense of humor will be sorely missed. Oscar strongly believed in the motto "the strong should carry the weak."
He relished driving his '56 Ford and long rides on his Harley Davidson. Many will remember Oscar attending any event involving cars as the happiest times of his life. His well-rounded personality was only matched by his incredible skillset ranging from exquisite craftsmanship to mechanical ingenious.
Oscar's main focus in life was his family. He loved family gatherings and having a cold one with his friends. Everyone he knew could rely on him for his stability and were pulled by his charismatic and friendly personality. Oscar could hold a conversation with anybody. Everyone was interesting.
He lived in Ventura County his entire life and is survived by his loving wife of 29 years Rosie and two children Oscar, Jr. (fiancée Ashley) and Cecily; his parents, Refugio and Alicia Loya; his sisters Alma from El Paso, Texas, and Minerva; his brothers David, Marcos, and Sergio (Bernadette) and his niece Kaitlyn; along with an extended Durazo family, all from Oxnard.
The family gives their sincerest gratitude to his physicians and nursing staff at Ventura County Hematology-Oncology Specialists, especially Christine, Carol, Roseanne, Angela, and Dennis, to Julie and Michelle from Livingston Memorial Hospice, and to Sister Magdalene and Sister Daisy from Sisters Servants of Mary, for bringing God's presence to Oscar at his time of passing.

A rosary will be held at Santa Clara Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 13th at 7 PM and funeral mass will be held at Santa Clara Catholic Church on Thursday, August 14th at 10 AM followed by internment at Santa Clara cemetery.

Oscar has been entrusted to the care of the family owned and operated Reardon Funeral Home 511 north A st, Oxnard. (805)487-1720
