Glenna Kurz Obituary

Glenna Mae Kurz, a 50 year resident of Oxnard, passed peacefully into her next life on Sunday, November 2, 2014, All Souls' Day. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Glenna Tunnell was born February 25, 1934, in Fullerton, CA. by her then migrant worker parents from Oklahoma, Ralph and Bernadine Tunnell. Her family eventually owned a diner in Grove, Okla., where the country life had a profound influence on her. Her freshman year at Grove H.S. she was an all-state point guard. Her family moved to the San Fernando Valley when she was 14, where she met her husband of 61 years, Patrick Kurz, at North Hollywood High. It was love at first sight. Before getting married she converted to Catholicism and remained a devout Catholic, a strong faith she passed on to her eight children.
Glenna, showed an artistic talent early on, selling her first painting when she was 14. Today she is considered a Top 100 California artist. Her work is prominently featured by the Bradford Exchange and her paintings hang in galleries and private collections around the world.
Above everything, she was the most avid fan of her children and grandchildren. She loved all their activities and sporting events. Like herself, she raised a family of athletes, artists and intellects. Her Oklahoma roots gave her a deep love of the outdoors, which resulted all the kids and grandkids going on countless adventures around the back country of the Los Padres. She was the most fun of grandma's, arrowhead hunting, fishing and hiking.
Glenna was an engaging life force, who embraced and touched everyone she met. She will be deeply missed.
Glenna is survived by her loving husband, Patrick, her brother Charles Tunnel of Rose Okla., and seven of her eight children; sons Michael (wife Gigi), Gordon (wife Christine), Randy (wife Kashia), David, Greg and by her daughters, Diane Hamilton (husband Mark), Gaylene Schroader (husband David), as well as 19 grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Sheryl Schwabauer (husband John), in 2010.
Glenna loved the Traditional Latin Mass. A High Tridentine Requiem Mass will be celebrated Monday, November 10 at 11 a.m. at Santa Clara Church, 323 So "E" Street, Oxnard. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Saturday Nov. 8th at Reardon Funeral Home, Oxnard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Sisters of the Servants of Mary, who so lovingly and faithfully cared for her until she transitioned to her new life. 140 N. G Street, Oxnard, 93030-5214.
